Painted white and marked with the distinctive Civil Defense insignia—three red and white stripes inside a blue circle, these were worn by Air Raid Wardens during drills and emergency preparedness activities throughout WWII and the Cold War era.

Stamped “U.S. GOVT PROPERTY OCD” on the interior, this helmet was issued by the Office of Civil Defense, the federal agency responsible for coordinating civilian protection during the 1950s–60s. The helmet features the original herringbone web suspension system, leather sweatband, and chinstrap.

It shows honest wear from storage and age, including paint chipping, interior staining, and light rust along the edges. While the emblem matches known Civil Defense markings, we cannot confirm whether it is original to the period or added later.
