This is an original U.S. Army Pack, Field, Combat, M-1945, a late-World War II design that saw continued production and frontline use during the Korean War. Although designated “M-1945,” the model name refers to the year the design was standardized, not the year of manufacture. This example is dated January 18, 1951, placing it squarely in the Korean War production period.

The M-1945 combat pack was developed as an improvement over earlier field packs, offering better load distribution, an integrated shoulder harness, and increased capacity for sustained field operations. It was intended to be worn in conjunction with the U.S. Army cartridge belt and suspenders system and represents a transitional step between WWII web gear and later Cold War load-bearing equipment.

This example retains its original instruction panel, clearly marked “PACK, FIELD, COMBAT, M-1945,” a feature often missing on surviving examples. The pack is constructed from heavy OD cotton duck canvas with correct period steel hardware and shows honest service wear consistent with age and use. No modern materials or reproduction components are present.

A solid, authentic piece of early Cold War U.S. Army field gear, suitable for collectors, reenactors, or historical display.
