Offered here is a genuine U.S. M1903 Springfield rifle stock and handguard set, manufactured by Rock Island Arsenal during World War I and later reissued during World War II. This is an authentic Type S straight grip stock, constructed from walnut and showing clear signs of military service without being sporterized or altered.

The left side of the stock bears the original RIA / EB boxed cartouche, marking it as Rock Island Arsenal-inspected by Elmer Bjerke during WWI production. Next to that is the FJA cartouche, the WWII-era inspector mark of Frank J. Atwood, indicating the stock was inspected and reissued during Remington’s WWII production run. The stock also retains its circle-P proof mark behind the trigger guard and a deeply carved rack number “4697” on the right side of the buttstock — a classic field marking seen on issued rifles.

It includes the original checkered steel buttplate with trapdoor, correct for early M1903 configurations. The upper handguard is the correct variant for use with the ladder-style rear sight — not the later M1903A3 peep sight — and fits tightly to the stock. Wood finish shows honest service wear but no cracks or major repairs. Metal hardware not included beyond the buttplate.

This is an excellent piece for a period-correct M1903 restoration, a collector’s display rifle, or historical reenactment use. A hard-to-find original RIA set with real history behind it.
